Humans are commonly known as homo sapiens which means that we are genetically similar to animals. We are members of the Animal Kingdom, yet we are the source of extinction of approximately 600 species of animals.

Although climate change has a big part in animal extinctions, human activities are also considered a big factor. Global warming, deforestation, over-hunting and fishing, land explosion, starvation, and pollution have all led to the endangerment of many species.

Dodo, a bird species went extinct during the 17th century as it was hunted by both humans and their non-native pets such as pigs and dogs. Woolly Mammoths and the saber-toothed cat got extinct during the last ice age because of climate change and being hunted by humans. The golden toad extinct in the 19th century as it was subjected to global warming and pollution. Western black rhinoceros got exterminated in the 20th century by hunters because of their beautiful horns.

Nowadays, lemurs have become the world’s most endangered primate because of deforestation, which has resulted in its loss of habitat. African parrots are also at risk of extinction as they are being smuggled for their huge demand in the pet market. Blue whales are also an endangered species due to pollution and commercial whaling. There are only 3000 tigers left in the world because of poaching and climate change.

Although many organizations are working to protect animals such as Clear water Marine Aquarium, Wildlife Conservation Network, The World Wildlife Fund, International Union For Conservation Of Nature, Defenders Of Wildlife, and so much more. We, as individuals, also have to fulfill our responsibilities, we need to create awareness on this subject, we can fund organizations that help protect the environment, we have to recycle our junk to reduce pollution and we need to move to a vegetable-based diet. These little steps will give us satisfaction and help improve the environment. “Because change starts with you.”(Zootopia)
